Our Best Answer - How is my GPA calculated?

The formula for calculating the GPA is Grade Points/Attempted Credit Hours. Grade points are calculated as follows:

  • A = 4 points per semester hour
  • B = 3 points per semester hour
  • C = 2 points per semester hour
  • D = 1 point per semester hour
  • F = 0 points per semester hour

Grade points (see “Grading system” above) x semester hours graded “A” through “F” = GPA.

Example:  If a student earns an “A” in a course with five semester hours of credit and a “C” in a course with two semester hours of credit, his/her GPA would be computed:

            4 x 5 =    20 grade points

            2 x 2 =      4 grade points

24 grade points divided by seven total semester hours = 3.429 GPA
